Biographical / Historical

Annie Doak Dillard was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1945. She attended Hollins University, graduating with a BA in 1967 and a Masters in 1968. She wrote her Masters thesis on Walden Pond and Thoreau. Annie married Hollins University Professor Richard Dillard in 1965, and they divorced in 1975. She has written several works, including Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Teaching a Stone to Talk, and several works of poetry and essay compliations. She is also a painter.
