Biographical / Historical

Richard Henry Wilde Dillard was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on October 11,1937. He recieved his Bachelor of Arts degree from Roanoke College, and earned his Master of Arts and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 1959 and 1965 respectively. He won the Academy of American Poets Prize, the O.B. Hardison, Jr. Poetry Prize, and the Hanes Award for poetry. He taught at Hollins University within the English and Creative Writing department from 1964 until his death on April 4, 2023.
