Biographical / Historical
The Beale Garden on Hollins University campus was created in 1930 behind the Cocke Memorial building. It was planted in memory of Hollins alumna Lucy Preston Beale (Class of 1864), with support from her daughter Lucy Beale Huffman (Class of 1904). In 2004, a proposal was put forward to renovate the Garden, with support from the Garden Club of Virginia. The renovation was completed and the Garden was rededicated in October of 2006.
